Favourite Drummers
Tommy Lee
Tommy Lee is the drummer with 80s rock group Motley Crue. He is a leading drum pioneer. Known for his insane solos, and his famous stunt, in which during a gig, his drum kit rose, spun around, turned upside down, and flew out above the crowd while he played a solo. This showed the way for many drummers to follow.
Joey Jordison
Joey Jordison is the drummer in Slipknot. He used Tommy Lees idea, and furthered his flying drum kit. He is regarded among metal fans as the greatest drummer alive. He wears a mask to cover his face, and a jumpsuit, that every band member wears.
Terry Bozzio
Terry Bozzio is well known for his work with Frank Zappa. He has played with many other bands, such as nu-metal band Korn. He has a huge drum kit, with a massive range of toms, cymbals, bass drums and even things like gongs and glockenspiels. He has his drums tuned in chromatic and major scales, so he can play tunes on his drums.
Dave Grohl
Dave Grohl is known for his drumming with the bands Scream, Nirvana, them crooked Vultures, tenacious D, and many other side projects, including Queens of the stone age, the prodigy and probot. He is also the frontman of a worldwide renowned band, Foo fighters.

Travis Barker
Travis Barker is the drummer in Californian punk rock band Blink 182. He is the driving force behind the band and is known for his unique power house style of drumming. He is a popular contender for the worlds best drummer among mainstream music fans.
Meg White
Meg white makes up 50% of the Detroit based band, the white stripes, along with her ex-husband, Jack. She has a very recognisable style of playing that involves mainly floor toms.
Tre Cool
Tre Cool is the drummer in Californian punk-rock band Green Day. He is known for his relentlessly fast drumming, his eccentricity and sheer energy. Green Day being a 3-piece, he works hard to give them a full, powerful sound.

Dominic Howard
Dom Howard plays drums in the world famous space-rock band Muse. A left handed drummer, but again, beingin a 3 piece band, he gives Muse the vigour and energy that makes them who they are. His skillful variations and rythyms counter singer Matt Bellamy’s melody and guitar perfectly while being locked in to Bassist Chris Wolstenholme’s bass trawls.

Drums as instruments
Usually drum Kits aren’t tuned or in particular note, rather pitches. They are used to keep beat and be percussion. In orchestras, however there are usually a range of tuned drums, such as kettle drums, or timpani, where they are tuned and used to play melodies. The Jamaican steel drums are also a good example of this.
